Lt Gen Mugira Presents Paper on Defence Industry’s Role in Uganda’s Economic Transformation in Honour of Late Gen Aronda Nyakairima.

On, 11th September 2024, Lt Gen James Mugira Managing Director National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) presented a paper, ” The Importance of a Viable Defence Indusry for Uganda’ in memory Late Gen Aronda Nyakairima at Common Wealth Speke Resort Munyonyo.
Lt Gen Mugira’s paper emphasizes the crucial role of a viable defence industry in Uganda’s economic transformation and industrialization. He cites President Museveni’s 2008 National Industrial Policy, which highlights the importance of science, technology, and innovation in driving economic growth.
The paper traces the origins of defence industries to the industrial revolution in Europe, which transformed societies and warfare through new technologies and machine-based production. Mugira argues that a viable defence industry is essential for Uganda’s prosperity and security, enabling the country to produce advanced weaponry and technology.
The paper explores the benefits of a domestic defence industry, including enhanced national security, economic growth, and technological innovation, while also honouring the legacy of Late Gen Aronda Nyakairima.
